Kalman frá Lćkjamóti

Kalman is a first prize four
gaited stallion. The fact that he is first prize says a lot about
how exceptional he is as all his other scores must be extremely high to
compensate for his lack of pace. In 2000 when he was just five years
old Kalman took 10th place in his age class in the breeding competition at
Landsmot (Iceland's national show) which is an excellent result for a four gaited stallion. At age 11 he was evaluated again with even higher scores
showing that he still has what it takes.
We are extremely proud to have a stallion of Kalman's caliber here in the US.
Kalman’s sire Álmur frá Lćkjamóti is a very soft and supple five gaited first prize stallion.
He was exported from Iceland to Sweden. In 1999 Álmur competed for Sweden on the 1999 World Championship team in T2 (tolt on loose rein) tying
for fourth place in the A finals and in the Five Gait placing second in the B finals. Kalman’s grandfather on his sire’s side is the famous honor prize
stallion Stígandi frá Sauđárkróki. Kalman’s dam, Von frá Stekkjarholti, is an excellent naturally tolting four gaited mare with very high action in all
gaits. She has proven herself to be a superior breeding horse producing three first prize horses and a fourth with second prize. She is a descendant of the famous stallions Ófeigur frá Hvanneyri and Rökkvi frá Dalkoti.
Kalman is a pure four gaited horse. He possesses a very natural high action tolt
that is easy to get and very smooth to ride. His movements and clear beat in tolt are 100% natural. He requires no special shoeing and is often
ridden on all types of terrain barefoot with no problems. His trot is large, with excellent natural action and suspension. His canter is three beat
and he is capable of a beautiful slow collected canter. His walk exceptional - extremely wide, loose, and ground covering. His
gaits are well defined and easy, even for the novice rider. His gaits are flashy, yet smooth and comfortable to ride for hours out
on the trail. Kalman is a stunningly handsome dark bay stallion. He stands out in any crowd. His high scores for conformation reflect that.
Not only is his building good, but it is topped off by one of the lushest manes and tails you will see on an Icelandic horse – given a
perfect “10” by the Icelandic judges! Before we imported him he was known as “the hairiest horse in Iceland” and it’s easy to see why.
Kalman is not only beautiful on the outside, but he has excellent character. His primary job - and one
he performs exceptionally well at - is to be Steve’s pleasure trail horse. He is very calm and easy going to handle in all situations.
Under saddle he is willing, obedient and seeks to please. He has won ribbons in many disciplines including trail trials and hunter paces.
He is proud and confident, yet friendly and affectionate. He is simply a pleasure to handle and ride. Based on his breeding, gaits, conformation, character, and what he has already produced we feel
Kalman is an excellent stallion for the North American market and will further the breeding of good quality horses here. Already his young offspring
are showing that they are inheriting their sire’s good looks (including big manes and tails - one of his sons has already scored a perfect 10 for
mane and tail), supple movements, and easy, confident character. His offspring are easily spotted in the pasture for their beauty - large manes and
tails, elegant bodies, and lots of charisma. Most show his large, flashy, ground covering trot in the field and the ones that have been started
readily offered tolt in their first rides under saddle. At a foal show in Iceland two of Kalman’s offspring took 1st and 2nd place honors out of 36
youngsters. At the NEIHC young horse evaluations in 2008 a Kalman daughter was the highest scoring young horse with a total score of 8.2. Several of Kalman’s offspring in Iceland have also become successful competition horses competing in tolt, four gait, and children’s classes. In addition, three daughters and one son of Kalman have already been evaluated 2nd prize at breeding evaluations in Iceland and Sweden. Here in the US
we are already receiving calls for repeat breedings from happy mare owners To view many more photos of Kalman, please visit his photo album. To view photos and video of Kalman's offspring, please visit their photo album. Kalman is available for pasture and hand breeding at home in Western New York State. He has also
successfully bred mares across North America via AI. Chilled shipped semen is always available within both the US and Canada and frozen semen
is available upon special request. For all breedings, priority
and a discount will be given to first prize mares. We also offer a discount for multiple mares.
